Interior design looks effortless and exciting from the outside, think of the mood boards, the styling, the beautiful finished spaces. But behind every successful designer is something most people never see and it has nothing to do with luck or talent. I’ve personally mentored over 500 interior designers and I’m proud to say that we had an excellent completion rate in our mentorship with a typical success rate of over 80% in each round.
The difference between those who made it and the ones who didn’t came down to this one thing: those who succeeded really cared and really wanted to become a designer. This meant that they were willing to do the things they didn’t want to do (like market themselves or learn to draw) in order to make it through to the other side.
In additional to that, you could see that they cared about the work they were doing, they cared about their projects, they cared about the detail, the client, the end result. They cared so much… almost to their own detriment! The truth is, if you don’t care about being an interior designer, you won’t become a good one. Not because you lack talent, but because design demands something deeper than talent and that is commitment.

IntoDesign Membership
Everything you need to reach your goals as an interior designer in one place, with systems, tools, training, community and mentorship.
Design is not only about creativity; it is also a huge responsibility. If you treat your career like a hobby and constantly taking courses, watching inspiring videos and learning endlessly but never putting anything into practice, you’re holding yourself back. When you take responsibility over a client project, you are making a promise to them and to yourself that you are going to make this work! You prove to yourself and to them that you care and you promise to do what it takes to bring your project to life.
If you care about the proportions being right, the light being correct and the drawings being clear, you also care that your client feels proud, comfortable and understood. This level of care shapes the outcome of your projects and the trust your clients place in you. Without care, design becomes surface-level and surface-level design never lasts. True success in interior design comes from paying attention to what others overlook and taking responsibility for the details.
So that’s why some interior designers succeed faster than others, it is not luck. It is that steady growth that pushes them to do the extra sketch, rethink the layout, or check a measurement one more time. They know that growth happens in the small refinements that most people skip. Designers who succeed stay open to learning. They evolve with every project, applying what they learn and using mistakes as stepping stones rather than setbacks and they join a community that supports them and who they can feel proud to support too.
Perfectionism & Interior Designers
The reason you compare yourself, chase perfection or hold yourself back is not because you do not care enough. It is because you care so much that the fear of disappointment feels unbearable. You want your work to matter and to reflect your standards. That passion you have is an important driver for you, but without the right support it will stop you from taking action. When you care deeply, the risk of failure feels personal, which is why so many designers freeze before starting.
This is why we started IntoDesign. What began as The Interior Designer’s Business School mentorship has evolved into a global online workspace where you can grow your career as an interior designer, supported by other professionals, one project at a time. Inside, you will find structure, accountability and encouragement to turn your care into progress instead of pressure. You will see that the very thing holding you back is also what will move you forward when channelled in the right direction.
Just Keep Going!
The skills, clients and recognition all come naturally when you care enough to keep going, even when it is not easy. Care is what fuels consistency and consistency is what builds your personal success. Ultimately that is what separates the designers who succeed from those who stop. It’s the willingness to care enough to continue improving, learning and creating.
So if you want to join a supportive, professional community and succeed in your career as an interior designer, join our IntoDesign platform – a place where interior designers of all levels learn, grow and design together. It’s the secret to becoming a successful interior designer.
